So somehow I find myself alone in my (now) clean apartment with a few minutes to clear my head. It has been a busy week – huge new business pitch at work, many post-work obligations, lots going on with family – and of course the start of the IVF cycle.
(And, all of that coincided with ICLW week – so many new visitors here. Welcome!)
This morning I went in for blood work accompanied by DH, which was nice. We agreed that he’d come with me and then we would make a date of it – yummy breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. After breakfast, we stopped by the world’s most wonderful farmers’ market to supplement our share of the CSA this week (heavy on the beets, which I am still figuring out what to do with…)
I was so tired when we finally got home that I took at 2 hour nap. The kind where you wake up and wonder what day it is. Delicious.
So now that I am more comfortable with the subcutaneous shots, the early morning blood work and ultra-sounds, I’m wondering if there is something else I can be doing. I read this post by The Pitter-Patter on fertility charms and got to thinking – are there foods that I should be incorporating into my diet?
I already try to eat healthy, local and in moderation – but is there something more?
Happy ICLW!
I love those kind of naps! You wake up so refreshed, rather then more tired. Sending you lots of love for your cycle!

Oh Good Luck for the IVF Cycle!
Fresh Produce is what should go in! And sprouts!

Thanks for the link to my blog! I’m sure a health organic diet is the best thing, but I did hear that pineapple is good for implantation. I know in China ginger is not given to pregnant women as it is believed to cause contractions/miscarriage, it is only eaten to bring on labour… so maybe avoid it. Wishing you lots of luck with this cycle!!
I love beets. When we did a CSA a few years back, and it was beet season, I roasted them all when I first got them, and then used them in salads, pastas, or just ate them with goat cheese and salt. Mmmmmmm!
As for food to eat while going thru IVF, I think what you’re doing sounds good. I was told by my acupuncturist to increase protein (he especially thought red meat and eggs) while the follies were growing during stims. And I’ve also heard pineapple around transfer time can help with implantation.
Good luck growing those follies!!
Best of luck with your first, and hopefully only, IVF cycle. In terms of your eating habits, from my experiences, a generally healthy eating scenario was advised. I don’t believe in following everyone’s out-there eating plans, heavy on one or two foods.
Because you have so many blood tests during IVF, your doctor should be able to give you tips on foods to eat that will balance your system. For instance, I had low blood pressure and often felt dizzy, so I was advised to keep my blood oxygenated by drinking water, and told that rather than eat high sodium, unhealthy snacks, an occasional small can of V-8 juice was good to carry in my handbag. Anyway, I do believe that your body tells you what it needs. In both of my pregnancies, I craved bananas and potatos, which probably meant I needed potassium. Either that, or I was just pigging out on Birds Eye potato waffles out of sheer gluttony.
I am so pleased for you and will visit again to see how your IVF journey is going.
Happy ICLW!
I didn’t know about the ginger…..
I don’t know much about the best foods to eat, but I wanted to wish you good luck!

Three words- chocolate beet cake. Best ever. Try it.
Visiting from ICLW (I am a native new yorker born in Brooklyn so your blog name caught my eye).
I love those kind of naps. I rarely get to take them these days, but boy do they rock!
Good luck to you!
